The 28th of the

28 Principles in The Urantia Book

The Great Question Number Seven

7. Is loyalty— devotion to highest duty—desirable? Then must man carry on amid the possibilities of betrayal and desertion. The valor of devotion to duty consists in the implied danger of default.

The Great Goal of Hue-manimal Existence

It is to the mind of perfect poise, housed in a body of clean habits, stabilized neural energies, and balanced chemical function—when the physical, mental, and spiritual powers are in triune harmony of development—that a maximum of light and truth can be imparted with a minimum of temporal danger or risk to the real welfare of such a being. By such a balanced growth does man ascend the circles of planetary progression one by one, from the seventh to the first.

On the Path to Understanding the "Mastery of Self"

It is accurate to say that "understanding" the 28 principles of "high mortal philosophy" found in Paper 48, The Morontia Life required the asking of many questions and not a small amount of meditative thinking on them.

Without spiritual courage...you will never practice these 28 principles, which, when consistently practiced, lead to the acquisition of experiential virtues--living virtues--living values.

Is The Challenge to Be "Spiritually Courageous" the Greatest Challenge of Them All?

Without spiritual courage...
  • the fear will ever be too great...
  • the challenge will ever loom too big...
  • the threats will ever be too ominous...
  • the difficulty in scaling the climb to greatness...too vertical...
And so, I ask you...
  • How can you ever allow yourself to have the "spiritual courage" to self-correct, self-discipline and self-control, self-direct back to inner divine spirit-leading, self-mastery and to manifest "true character," without this magnificent virtue?
  • And how can you ever allow yourself to manifest spiritual courage with first loving yourself as a child of God?

Without First Loving Yourself...

Loving others, as your true character self, is not possible without first loving yourself.

To love yourself...from within...is to have and maintain your "living connection" with Father's indwelling divine spirit-presence -- the Thought Adjuster. This inner "living connection" must be ever-momentarily "continual." Half-hearted, insincere, and intermittent does not result in self-mastery--the supremacy of spirit-domination over mind and matter.

When the "true love of self" originates out of the divine love-energy and deep trust between the Thought Adjuster and the mortal child of its indwelling...the "faith-identity," as an already immortal child of our Paradise Father, far transcends that of "mere mortal consciousness."

And in this "evolving transcension of self," the soul-conscious morontia being is evolving a increasingly crystalline clearer view of morontial and spiritual realities.

Deeply meditate upon the meaning of the following passage from The Urantia Book...

11: 3.1.  A purely spiritual reality is, to a purely material being, apparently nonexistent.

In other more simple words...spiritual realities do not exist in a wholly material-minded individual.

Spiritual courage, or the lack of it, has everything to do with the 28th of the 28 principles in The Urantia Book. And it requires spiritual courage to love yourself and take the best care of your "mortal material bio-suit," which is on loan to you and for the indwelling of your divine spirit gift from our Father.

And with these thoughts in mind, let's deep dive into the 28th principle of high mortal philosophy.

48:7.30 28. The argumentative defense of any proposition is inversely proportional to the truth contained.

Turning this Principle into a Personal "I am" Declaration

I am ever-momentarily embracing and declaring the "light of truth." The experiential truth I am needs no defense.

Always remember: it is not possible to grow into the "living spiritual value" contained within an intellectual principle typed onto a page; you must "internalize" the principle by converting it into a personal "I am" declaration of the person you desire to become.

No matter what truth you speak, from experience, no matter how sincere, from the heart, you mean it, there will always be another child of God whose own interpretation, intellectually, will oppose it.

But the great challenge is not in declaring truth to another or others, but in "mastering your own tongue," in not reacting fearfully and negatively to what another's fearful and negative reaction is to what you have spoken.

It is in every fearful reaction that we "fail to live up to the faith which we really have," and fall into the intellectual fraud "argumentative defense" trap we set and others set for us.

The Truth Needs No Defense

Every word both thought and spoken is...energy... The
thoughts we both maintain in the mind's-eye-focus and verbalize shape one's own reality and/or unreality and the reality and/or unreality of fellow children of God.

The power of free will choice is that either way -- "reality" or "unreality" you choose -- your choice; either way you have made a choice to embrace "reality" or "unreality."

And any choice of "unreality" is the choice of "disconnection" from Father's indwelling divine spirit-presence--the Thought Adjuster.

Only the choice of growing into increasingly greater identity with one's morontial soul and the indwelling Thought Adjuster constitutes the growing awareness of the "I am" personality's unification of the physical, mental and spiritual powers.

Only "true character" is reality.

The moment you feel compelled to defend the "true character" you is the moment you enter into "argumentatively defending" beLIEf, not faith. And by so entering into the argumentative defense of your beLIEf-proposition, you have entered into a state of disconnection from Father and his indwelling divine spirit-presence.

The more you feel compelled to argue and debate...the less truth such an argumentative defense contains.

Again, I declare to you that the truth experiences of the "true character you" needs no defense.

The mark of a wise mind is to be able to entertain all beLIEfs without accepting them.

The freest personality on Urantia is the one who has nothing to hide -- the one who in faith-experience with Father's will "knows the truth" and "speaks the truth" and stands silent in the face of every attack on truth.

Such a great, wise and noble child of God knows his morontial
soul is already immortal and unassailable. Such a one has mastered, in honestly sincere and focused continual connection-cooperation with his and her indwelling Thought Adjuster, mastered his and her tongue.

And this, my friend, constitutes the..."supremacy of spirit-domination over mind and matter.

And this is the true meaning of the 28th of the twenty-eight principles in The Urantia Book.

The 28th principle is about self-mastery in honestly sincerely cooperation with the indwelling Thought Adjuster. And it takes experiential spiritual courage to self-correct, self-discipline and exercise self-control, and ever-momentarily self-direct back to alignment with Father's will, by giving our most honestly sincere cooperation to the spirit-leading of the indwelling divine spirit--the Thought Adjuster -- all of which leads to self-mastery.

The 28th of the 28 principles in The Urantia Book correlates to the individual child of God vibrationally responding to the marshalling impulse of the seventh (7th) Adjutant Mind spirit of Wisdom. The 28th principle is the fourth (4th) of the set of principles 25 through 28, which are the generalized requirements to experientially master the first (1st) psychic circle of experiential spiritual cosmic insight into the reality of the Paradise Father, also corresponding to the seventh (7th) planetary age and the seventh (7th) Mansion Training World system of educational and socialization equivalency requirements.

Note: Any of the first twenty-four (24) principles representing the generalized requirements for the mastery of the seventh, six, fifth, fourth, third and second psychic circles of experiential spiritual intuition, experiential spiritual understanding, experiential spiritual courage, experiential spiritual knowledge, experiential spiritual fraternalhood, and experiential spiritual worship (cosmic insight) which were not mastered (after entrance in the second (1st) psychic circle) will be carried over into the first for further experiential acquirement.

The Great Goal of Hue-man Attainment

  • I am the mind of perfect poise.
  • I am housed in a body of clean habits, and clear and pure thinking.
  • I am stabilized in neural energies.
  • I am balanced in chemical function.
  • I am ever-momentarily transferring all mortal experiential meanings and values into the unifying whole.
  • I am ever-momentarily unifying the physical, mental, and spiritual powers with the "I am that I am" personality.
  • I am ever-momentarily giving you, my indwelling divine partner and Thought Controller, my most honest, sincere, and dedicated cooperation in attaining to "supremacy of spirit domination over mind and matter."

  • What are the four cosmic dimensions of personality unification?
1. Body                            1. self-correction
2. Mind                           2. self-discipline / self-control
3. Soul                             3. self-direction to spirit-leading,
4. Spirit                           4. self-mastery

Personality unity self-realizes supremacy of spirit domination over mind and matter.

What is your definition of religion?
How do you define 'your religion?'
How do you keep your religion...pure...?

Personal religion must be kept uncontaminated by:

1. maintaining a self-corrective philosophy of daily living.
2. maintaining non-involvement and impartiality with regard to all social, economic, and political alliances.
3. seeking out and maintaining creative, comforting, and love-expanding relations with one's fellow beings.
4. enhancing personal progress of spiritual insight and the appreciation of cosmic values.
5. prevention of fanaticism by the compensations of the scientific mental attitude.

What is a character deficiency?
What is self-correction of a character-deficiency?
What are the steps involved in correcting one's own character-deficiencies?
What replaces a character-deficiency?

Does a character-deficiency automatically disappear when one is exercising self-correction, self-control and self-direction?

1. Self-correction.

99:3.7 The great weakness of all this unrecognized and unconscious type of religious activity is that it is unable to profit from open religious criticism and thereby attain to profitable levels of self-correction. It is a fact that religion does not grow unless it is disciplined by constructive criticism, amplified by philosophy, purified by science, and nourished by loyal fellowship.

2. Self-control.

54:1.6 True liberty is the associate of genuine self-respect; false liberty is the consort of self-admiration. True liberty is the fruit of self-control; false liberty, the assumption of self-assertion. Self-control leads to altruistic service; self-admiration tends towards the exploitation of others for the selfish aggrandizement of such a mistaken individual as is willing to sacrifice righteous attainment for the sake of possessing unjust power over his fellow beings.

3. Self-direction.

36:5.8.  3. The spirit of courage—the fidelity endowment—in personal beings, the basis of character acquirement and the intellectual root of moral stamina and spiritual bravery. When enlightened by facts and inspired by truth, this becomes the secret of the urge of evolutionary ascension by the channels of intelligent and conscientious self-direction.

4. Supremacy of spirit domination over mind and matter.

109:3.2 ...comparatively few will elect to ascend the moral heights beyond the hills of self-mastery and character acquirement to attain the higher levels of emerging spirituality..
