The 24th of the

28 Principles in The Urantia Book

The Great Question Number Six

6. Is idealism—the approaching concept of the divine—desirable? Then must man struggle in an environment of relative goodness and beauty, surroundings stimulative of the irrepressible reach for better things.

The Great Goal of Hue-manimal Existence

It is to the mind of perfect poise, housed in a body of clean habits, stabilized neural energies, and balanced chemical function—when the physical, mental, and spiritual powers are in triune harmony of development—that a maximum of light and truth can be imparted with a minimum of temporal danger or risk to the real welfare of such a being. By such a balanced growth does man ascend the circles of planetary progression one by one, from the seventh to the first.

On the Path to Understanding the "Mastery of Self"

It is accurate to say that "understanding" the 28 principles of "high mortal philosophy" found in Paper 48, The Morontia Life required the asking of many questions and not a small amount of meditative thinking on them.

So may children of God wander through this life without a clue, and therefore, without a plan.

Moment by moment and day by day...time ticks away the limited number of seconds of the mortal experience.

The self-asserting ego will "not allow" that he and she is not in control of his and her material life path progression.

But the great irony--the "great paradox" -- the great oxymoron, if you will, is the likelihood that the majority of hue-mans on Urantia, at any one moment, are all under the "matrix of psychological" and "propagandistic" control of many others subconsciously viewed and beLIEved to have control over them.
  • Are you too willfully belligerent and self-assertive to admit who has control over your thought-feelings-beLIEfs?

Thinking, Feeling, Acting with and without a Plan

  • How many thoughts did you have, today?
  • How many feelings accompanied your thoughts?
  • Did you plan your day?
  • Did you go through your day without a plan?
  • Was the idea of "inviting" your Thought Adjuster into your daily work life, conversations and projects something that never crossed your mind?
  • Did you "invite" your Thought Adjuster into your daily work life, conversations and projects?
  • How "disconnected" were you from Father's indwelling spirit-presence?
  • How "connected" were you to Father's indwelling spirit-presence?
  • Did you "talk to God" as though He is the most distant "thing" from you?
  • Did you "have a little talk" with Father, as though he is your best friend in the whole of the Universe of universes?

5:1.10  The Father is not in spiritual hiding, but so many of his creatures have hidden themselves away in the mists of their own willful decisions and for the time being have separated themselves from the communion of his spirit and the spirit of his Son by the choosing of their own perverse ways and by the indulgence of the self-assertiveness of their intolerant minds and unspiritual natures.

The majority of hue-man children of God will always and ever live out their lives emotionally tossed to and fro, like the waves of an ocean.

The idea of asking one's indwelling Thought Adjuster to reveal the "spiritual blueprint" the divine spirit brought from Divinington for one's life is about as remote as the idea of climbing Mount Everest.

  • Do you hide yourself away from God our Father by your own willful decisions?
  • Are you involved in perverse thoughts, feelings and actions toward and involving other children of God?
  • Are you indulgent in "self-assertiveness," intolerant and unspiritual in how you communicate with and act toward others?

You Can't Handle It Both Ways

So many immature children of God want it both ways; they

want their "cake" and "eat it," too. They want to be
LIEve they are spiritual but choose to be "self-assertive," "exclusive" of God's presence within them and disconnected from His will.

In the presence of such immature souls, it takes little time at all to watch their combativeness emerge, their being "right" even when they are "wrong." Even their very "combativeness" is the fault of everyone in the world around them.

These embryonic souls never take responsibility for their own "deficiencies" of character.

What It Means to Enact and Live by an Effective Philosophy of Living

Without a great goal of hue-man existence to strive for, the individual is hapless, aimless, and unhappy, given to be blown about like a leaf in the wind.

140:4.8 An effective philosophy of living is formed by a combination of cosmic insight and the total of one's emotional reactions to the social and economic environment. Remember: While inherited urges cannot be fundamentally modified, emotional responses to such urges can be changed; therefore the moral nature can be modified, character can be improved. In the strong character emotional responses are integrated and co-ordinated, and thus is produced a unified personality. Deficient unification weakens the moral nature and engenders unhappiness.

To live--applying an effective philosophy of living--applied high principles of mortal philosophy to each and every moment of life leads to the comprehension of a "great goal" of hue-man attainment.

The Great Goal is Ever and Always...Attainment to "True Character"

This "great goal" of hue-man attainment is...self-mastery...which manifests as the "true character" of the morontial soul.

With all of these meanings in mind, let us now look at the 24th of the 28 principles in The Urantia Book.

48:7.26 24. The destiny of eternity is determined moment by moment by the achievements of the day by day living. The acts of today are the destiny of tomorrow.

Turning this Principle into a Personal "I am" Declaration

I am ever-momentarily acting upon my "inner light of truth," as it is revealed to me in sincerely honest cooperation with my indwelling Thought Adjuster--my divine partner.

Always remember: it is not possible to grow into the "living spiritual value" contained within an intellectual principle typed onto a page; you must "internalize" the principle by converting it into a personal "I am" declaration of the person you desire to become.
  • Are you super consciously (soul-consciously) aware of your "living faith" connection to your indwelling Thought Adjuster?

When your answer to this question is "yes," you are already an immortal ascending child of our Paradise Father.

The Fear...or...the Love of "Striving?"

It is in the "striving" to live a "principled life" that self-mastery is eventually attained -- "moment by moment by the achievements of the day by day living."

100:4.3  But the great problem of religious living consists in the task of unifying the soul powers of the personality by the dominance of LOVE. Health, mental efficiency, and happiness arise from the unification of physical systems, mind systems, and spirit systems. Of health and sanity man understands much, but of happiness he has truly realized very little. The highest happiness is indissolubly linked with spiritual progress. Spiritual growth yields lasting joy, peace which passes all understanding.

The "striving" to live a "principled life" is directly "transmutative," through honestly sincere, dedicated and focused cooperation with the indwelling divine spirit-presence, into increasing personality soul powers to unify the physical, mental and spiritual systems into the maturely coherent whole -- the new universe creature capable of translation-fusion out of the material bio-suit and/or after re-personalization into the morontial education-socialization system of planets, out of the morontial body-suit.

Acting Upon...

The "great goal" of hue-man existence--achievement--attainment is indeed self-realized--personality-soul-Thought Adjuster-realized...moment by moment and day by day in the achievements of the day by day living.
  • What did you "act upon," today?
  • Who did you "act upon," today?
  • Did you "act upon" from the resident self--your ego?
  • Did you "act upon" from your "alter ego" -- the personality coordinating the combined powers of the physical, mental and the spiritual systems?
  • Did you "act upon" your "inner light of truth?"
  • Did you "act" out of fear?
  • Did you "act" out of being controlled by external authorities?
  • Did you "act" out of love--unselfish acts of service to fellow children of God?

Do We Create Our Own Reality?

Understand clearly that we do create our reality--our "destiny" with every thought-emotion we predominantly hold within the "mind's-eye-focus," each and every moment of each and every day.

When your thoughts-emotions are fear-based, and these negative vibrations are the ones you predominantly hold within your "mind's-eye-focus," moment by moment and day by day, the likelihood of physical, mental and morontial distortions and deteriorations greatly increases.

This principle works inversely. When the predominant thoughts you hold in your "mind's-eye-focus" are high vibration thoughts-emotions, aligning the hue-man will with the will of God within you, the likelihood of the individual child of God effecting self-correction, self-discipline, self-direction and self-mastery -- the unification of the physical, mental and spiritual systems into the true character whole increases dramatically.

Fence-Sitting is NOT ALLOWED

The individual child of God will either "allow" himself and herself to feel fearful, unworthy and defeated by the great effort required to "strive" to become a person of "living faith" and "truer character," or be invigorated by it.

There is no "in between." There is no "fence-sitting." Either you are progressing into greater and greater "spirituality" and "truer character," or you are regressing--devolving and deteriorating.

And either way...it is YOUR CHOICE.

The 24th principle is about self-mastery. And it takes experiential spiritual courage to self-correct, self-discipline and exercise self-control, and ever-momentarily self-direct back to alignment with Father's will, by giving our most honestly sincere cooperation to the spirit-leading of the indwelling divine spirit--the Thought Adjuster -- all of which leads to self-mastery.

The 24th of the 28 principles in The Urantia Book correlates to the individual child of God vibrationally responding to the marshalling impulse of the sixth (6th) Adjutant Mind spirit of Worship (cosmic insight). The 24th principle is the fourth (4th) of the set of principles 21 through 24, which are the generalized requirements to experientially master the second (2nd) psychic circle of experiential spiritual cosmic insight into the reality of the Paradise Father, also corresponding to the sixth (6th) planetary age and the sixth (6th) Mansion Training World system of educational and socialization equivalency requirements.

Note: Any of the first twenty (20) principles representing the generalized requirements for the mastery of the seventh, six, fifth, fourth and third psychic circles of experiential spiritual intuition, experiential spiritual understanding, experiential spiritual courage, experiential spiritual knowledge, and experiential spiritual fraternalhood, which were not mastered (after entrance in the second (2nd) psychic circle) will be carried over into the second for further experiential acquirement.

The Great Goal of Hue-man Attainment

  • I am the mind of perfect poise.
  • I am housed in a body of clean habits, and clear and pure thinking.
  • I am stabilized in neural energies.
  • I am balanced in chemical function.
  • I am ever-momentarily transferring all mortal experiential meanings and values into the unifying whole.
  • I am ever-momentarily unifying the physical, mental, and spiritual powers with the "I am that I am" personality.
  • I am ever-momentarily giving you, my indwelling divine partner and Thought Controller, my most honest, sincere, and dedicated cooperation in attaining to "supremacy of spirit domination over mind and matter."

  • What are the four cosmic dimensions of personality unification?
1. Body                            1. self-correction
2. Mind                           2. self-discipline / self-control
3. Soul                             3. self-direction to spirit-leading,
4. Spirit                           4. self-mastery

Personality unity self-realizes supremacy of spirit domination over mind and matter.

What is your definition of religion?
How do you define 'your religion?'
How do you keep your religion...pure...?

Personal religion must be kept uncontaminated by:

1. maintaining a self-corrective philosophy of daily living.
2. maintaining non-involvement and impartiality with regard to all social, economic, and political alliances.
3. seeking out and maintaining creative, comforting, and love-expanding relations with one's fellow beings.
4. enhancing personal progress of spiritual insight and the appreciation of cosmic values.
5. prevention of fanaticism by the compensations of the scientific mental attitude.

What is a character deficiency?
What is self-correction of a character-deficiency?
What are the steps involved in correcting one's own character-deficiencies?
What replaces a character-deficiency?

Does a character-deficiency automatically disappear when one is exercising self-correction, self-control and self-direction?

1. Self-correction.

99:3.7 The great weakness of all this unrecognized and unconscious type of religious activity is that it is unable to profit from open religious criticism and thereby attain to profitable levels of self-correction. It is a fact that religion does not grow unless it is disciplined by constructive criticism, amplified by philosophy, purified by science, and nourished by loyal fellowship.

2. Self-control.

54:1.6 True liberty is the associate of genuine self-respect; false liberty is the consort of self-admiration. True liberty is the fruit of self-control; false liberty, the assumption of self-assertion. Self-control leads to altruistic service; self-admiration tends towards the exploitation of others for the selfish aggrandizement of such a mistaken individual as is willing to sacrifice righteous attainment for the sake of possessing unjust power over his fellow beings.

3. Self-direction.

36:5.8.  3. The spirit of courage—the fidelity endowment—in personal beings, the basis of character acquirement and the intellectual root of moral stamina and spiritual bravery. When enlightened by facts and inspired by truth, this becomes the secret of the urge of evolutionary ascension by the channels of intelligent and conscientious self-direction.

4. Supremacy of spirit domination over mind and matter.

109:3.2 ...comparatively few will elect to ascend the moral heights beyond the hills of self-mastery and character acquirement to attain the higher levels of emerging spirituality.
