The Great Question Number Two
1. Is courage—strength of character—desirable? Then must man be reared in an environment which necessitates grappling with hardships and reacting to disappointments.
The Great Goal of Hue-manimal Existence
It is to the mind of perfect poise, housed in a body of clean habits, stabilized neural energies, and balanced chemical function—when the physical, mental, and spiritual powers are in triune harmony of development—that a maximum of light and truth can be imparted with a minimum of temporal danger or risk to the real welfare of such a being. By such a balanced growth does man ascend the circles of planetary progression one by one, from the seventh to the first.

On the Path to Understanding the "Mastery of Self"
It is accurate to say that "understanding" the 28 principles of "high mortal philosophy" found in Paper 48, The Morontia Life required the asking of many questions and not a small amount of meditative thinking on them.
Questions Are the "Keys" that Open the Cosmic Doors to Greater Understanding
"Questioning and doubting what is going on these days does not make you "anti" anything, nor does it make a you "conspiracy theorist." Actually, questioning IS, and should be, the "place of reason." The fact that questioning has become "taboo" should, in fact, send a chill up everyone's spine."
I took the time to record the whole Bible and then would play it at top speed, placing it under my pillow.
A year later, I had memorized many sections of the Bible, but especially the Psalms and Proverbs, which were my favorite books.

48:7.4 2. Few persons live up to the faith which they really have. Unreasoned fear is a master intellectual fraud practiced upon the evolving mortal soul.
Turning this Principle into a Personal "I am" Declaration
I am living up to the faith which I really have; I am rising above all fear.
Always remember: it is not possible to grow into the "living spiritual value" contained within an intellectual principle typed onto a page; you must "internalize" the principle by converting it into a personal "I am" declaration of the person you desire to become.

What we will first focus upon is acquiring the "understanding and wisdom" comprehension of what it means to "live up to the faith" which we really have.
Living Up to the Faith Which We Really Have
- Faith motivates life and shapes the mode of living.
- The beLIEf state is filled with unreasoned fears.
Only the living faith-trust of a small child in Father's will has the power to vibrationally "rise above" fear which buoys up all beLIEf.
- Faith is a living attribute of genuine personal religious experience.
A living attribute is always becoming more of what it already is, not less -- never less.
- (Self) saving faith is centered on God alone, who IS Truth, Beauty, and Goodness Personified, and Infinitely more.
An Anecdote to Enlarge Understanding
Understanding the Caveman
100:4.5 In the mind's eye conjure up a picture of one of your primitive ancestors of cave-dwelling times—a short, misshapen, filthy, snarling hulk of a man standing, legs spread, club upraised, breathing hate and animosity as he looks fiercely just ahead. Such a picture hardly depicts the divine dignity of man. But allow us to enlarge the picture. In front of this animated human crouches a saber-toothed tiger. Behind him, a woman and two children. Immediately you recognize that such a picture stands for the beginnings of much that is fine and noble in the human race, but the man is the same in both pictures. Only, in the second sketch you are favored with a widened horizon. You therein discern the motivation of this evolving mortal. His attitude becomes praiseworthy because you understand him. If you could only fathom the motives of your associates, how much better you would understand them. If you could only know your fellows, you would eventually fall in love with them.
- Would you sacrifice yourself for the truth?
- What truth?
Fear is the Inversion of Faith
Fear is the "retardant" that puts out the fire of desire to "live the truth," "be the voice of truth," and to "freely share the truth" of one's inner living experience of being "truth-led" by Father's indwelling divine spirit -- the Thought Adjuster.
Unreasoned (unquestioned) fear is what holds each of us back from "living up to the faith which we really have." And unreasoned fear is not just a "fraudulent lie," but a "MASTER fraudulent lie."
Not only do we practice this "master fraudulent lie" of fear upon our own evolving mortal souls, but we assumingly, presumptuously project fear-lie after fear-lie upon the evolving mortal souls of our fellow children of God. What a travesty!
The fear to even mention our relationship to our Paradise Father, to his indwelling spirit, and to our Creator Father-Son allows us to hide behind all of the clever lies we construct to fearfully avoid such direct revelatory conversations (revealing our Paradise Father's love each and all of his mortal children).
Fear-beLIEf creates the Grand Maze of Confusion--the godless systems 
of beLIEf which have spread over the whole of hue-man civilization, like a fungal cancer that is rabidly out of control.
But you, as an individual child of God have the freedom to choose to "flip the programmed script." You may choose to accept the challenge to think of three (3) positive thoughts for every negative thought which enters your mind's eye focus. Then daily practice the rejecting of any negative thought and substituting these three positive thoughts every time a programmed negative thought occurs.
The Fear of Being Unworthy (Faithlessness)
The "Grand LIE" which has been perpetuated on Urantia (Earth) since the times of the Lucifer Rebellion is that ALL of hue-man civilization not of the so-called "privileged class and royal bloodlines" are unworthy to make our own decisions (too unintelligent, too stupid, hardly above the intelligence level of cattle).
Thus, are we seen as "chattel" "property" to be mass programmed-- mind-controlled and even assassinated, at will.
Therefore the masses had to be programmed into control by these ancient family bloodlines; we the people of the masses of hue-man civilization had to be controlled for our own good (for the good of the greater whole); this is the "Grand and Master Fraudulent Deception" which grew out of the Lucifer Rebellion.
The fear of being unworthy to govern oneself, therefore, one must be governed--mind-controlled by...
- tyrannical parent(s),
- tyrannical independent, franchise and large corporate employers,
- tyrannical shaman, pastor, priest, pope, or tribal leader(s),
- tyrannical teacher(s), professor(s), and school administrator(s),
- tyrannical local city and county government councils, administrators and mayors,
- tyrannical representatives in state Houses, Senates and governors,
- tyrannical representatives in the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of the federal government,
- tyrannical board members, managers, and CEOs throughout the whole of the Non Governmental Organizations, the whole of the Military Industrial Complex and the whole of the Medical Industrial Complex.
134:6.1 If one man craves freedom —liberty—he must remember that all other men long for the same freedom. Groups of such liberty-loving mortals cannot live together in peace without becoming subservient to such laws, rules, and regulations as will grant each person the same degree of freedom while at the same time safeguarding an equal degree of freedom for all of his fellow mortals. If one man is to be absolutely free, then another must become an absolute slave. And the relative nature of freedom is true socially, economically, and politically. Freedom is the gift of civilization made possible by the enforcement of LAW.
If one person craves absolute freedom, he and she will make slaves of the whole of hue-mankind, if not stopped.
But the act of sin (the craving of absolute godless power), whether it occurs on an individual evolutionary world--Urantia or any other, and whether it occurs in the lower orders of being on the morontial worlds is a violation of Universe LAW.
53:9.8 But for ages the seven prison worlds of spiritual darkness in Satania have constituted a solemn warning to all Nebadon, eloquently and effectively proclaiming the great truth “that the way of the transgressor is hard”; “that within every sin is concealed the seed of its own destruction”; that “the wages of sin is death.”
The Great Awakening
The 2nd principle of 28 principles in The Urantia Book corresponds to...
- self-discipline -- self-control.
There is much discussion occurring in the present regarding a "great awakening." There will indeed be a "greater awakening" over what has occurred in the past history of hue-man civilizations, because of the internet possibly connecting 2.2 billion or more hue-man households.
But this greater awakening is only one of hundreds, if not thousands more, which must take place over the next 1,000 years of hue-man evolution, until the universal consciousness of the Fatherhood of God and the Fraternalhood of hue-man children of God becomes a reality -- the Paradise Father and His Creator Son Michael (Christ Michael, Sovereign Ruler of Nebadon / Joshua Ben Joseph -- our onetime brother in the flesh) is visibly ruling in the hearts and minds of the hue-man children of God on Urantia.
But the teaching of self-discipline and self-control is "KEY" to these greater and greater vibrational "awakenings." Read and meditate upon the following:
Lesson on Self-Mastery
The Master was a perfected specimen of human self-control. When he was reviled, he reviled not; when he suffered, he uttered no threats against his tormentors; when he was denounced by his enemies, he simply committed himself to the righteous judgment of the Father in heaven.
At one of the evening conferences, Andrew asked Jesus:" Master, are we to practice self-denial as John taught us, or are we to strive for the self-control of your teaching? Wherein does your teaching differ from that of John?" Jesus answered: "John indeed taught you the way of righteousness in accordance with the light and laws of his fathers, and that was the religion of self-examination and self-denial. But I come with a new message of self-forgetfulness and self-control. I show to you the way of life as revealed to me by my Father in heaven.
"Verily, verily, I say to you, he who rules his own self is greater than he who captures a city. Self-mastery is the measure of man's moral nature and the indicator of his spiritual development. In the old order you fasted and prayed; as the new creature of the rebirth of the spirit, you are taught to believe and rejoice. In the Father's kingdom you are to become new creatures; old things are to pass away; behold I show you how all things are to become new. And by your love for one another you are to convince the world that you have passed from bondage to liberty, from death into life everlasting.
"By the old way you seek to suppress, obey, and conform to the rules of living; by the new way you are first transformed by the Spirit of Truth and thereby strengthened in your inner soul by the constant spiritual renewing of your mind, and so are you endowed with the power of the certain and joyous performance of the gracious, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Forget not—it is your personal faith in the exceedingly great and precious promises of God that ensures your becoming partakers of the divine nature. Thus by your faith and the spirit's transformation, you become in reality the temples of God, and his spirit actually dwells within you. If, then, the spirit dwells within you, you are no longer bondslaves of the flesh but free and liberated sons of the spirit. The new law of the spirit endows you with the liberty of self-mastery in place of the old law of the fear of self-bondage and the slavery of self-denial.
"Many times, when you have done evil, you have thought to charge up your acts to the influence of the evil one when in reality you have but been led astray by your own natural tendencies. Did not the Prophet Jeremiah long ago tell you that the human heart is deceitful above all things and sometimes even desperately wicked? How easy for you to become self-deceived and thereby fall into foolish fears, divers lusts, enslaving pleasures, malice, envy, and even vengeful hatred!
"Salvation is by the regeneration of the spirit and not by the self-righteous deeds of the flesh. You are justified by faith and fellowshipped by grace, not by fear and the self-denial of the flesh, albeit the Father's children who have been born of the spirit are ever and always masters of the self and all that pertains to the desires of the flesh. When you know that you are saved by faith, you have real peace with God. And all who follow in the way of this heavenly peace are destined to be sanctified to the eternal service of the ever-advancing sons of the eternal God. Henceforth, it is not a duty but rather your exalted privilege to cleanse yourselves from all evils of mind and body while you seek for perfection in the love of God.
"Your sonship is grounded in faith, and you are to remain unmoved by fear. Your joy is born of trust in the divine word, and you shall not therefore be led to doubt the reality of the Father's love and mercy. It is the very goodness of God that leads men into true and genuine repentance. Your secret of the mastery of self is bound up with your faith in the indwelling spirit, which ever works by love. Even this saving faith you have not of yourselves; it also is the gift of God. And if you are the children of this living faith, you are no longer the bondslaves of self but rather the triumphant masters of yourselves, the liberated sons of God.
"If, then, my children, you are born of the spirit, you are forever delivered from the self-conscious bondage of a life of self-denial and watchcare over the desires of the flesh, and you are translated into the joyous kingdom of the spirit, whence you spontaneously show forth the fruits of the spirit in your daily lives; and the fruits of the spirit are the essence of the highest type of enjoyable and ennobling self-control, even the heights of terrestrial mortal attainment—true self-mastery." ~ Jesus, The Urantia Book, (143:2.1)
Pray for More Self-Mastery
Remember, even if prayer does not change God, it very often effects great and lasting changes in the one who prays in faith and confident expectation. Prayer has been the ancestor of much peace of mind, cheerfulness, calmness, courage, self-mastery, and fair-mindedness in the men and women of the evolving races. ~ The Urantia Book, (91:4.5)
Trust is the crucial test of will creatures. Trustworthiness is the true measure of self-mastery, character. ~ The Urantia Book, (28:6.13)
Circle Attainment and Self-Mastery
In the ministry to so-called normal beings, seraphic assignments are made in accordance with the human attainment of the circles of intellectuality and spirituality. You start out in your mind of mortal investment in the seventh circle and journey inward in the task of
- self-understanding,
- self-conquest, and
- self-mastery;
The 2nd of the 28 principles in The Urantia Book correlates to the individual child of God vibrationally responding to the marshalling impulse of the first (1st) Adjutant Mind spirit of Intuition. The 2nd principle marks two of the first four principles, which are the generalized requirements to experientially master the seventh psychic circle of spiritual intuition, also corresponding the 1st planetary age and the first Mansion Training World educational and socialization equivalency requirements.
The Great Goal of Hue-man Attainment
- I am the mind of perfect poise.
- I am housed in a body of clean habits, and clear and pure thinking.
- I am stabilized in neural energies.
- I am balanced in chemical function.
- I am ever-momentarily transferring all mortal experiential meanings and values into the unifying whole.
- I am ever-momentarily unifying the physical, mental, and spiritual powers with the "I am that I am" personality.
- I am ever-momentarily giving you, my indwelling divine partner and Thought Controller, my most honest, sincere, and dedicated cooperation in attaining to "supremacy of spirit domination over mind and matter."

1. Self-correction.
99:3.7 The great weakness of all this unrecognized and unconscious type of religious activity is that it is unable to profit from open religious criticism and thereby attain to profitable levels of self-correction. It is a fact that religion does not grow unless it is disciplined by constructive criticism, amplified by philosophy, purified by science, and nourished by loyal fellowship.
2. Self-control.
54:1.6 True liberty is the associate of genuine self-respect; false liberty is the consort of self-admiration. True liberty is the fruit of self-control; false liberty, the assumption of self-assertion. Self-control leads to altruistic service; self-admiration tends towards the exploitation of others for the selfish aggrandizement of such a mistaken individual as is willing to sacrifice righteous attainment for the sake of possessing unjust power over his fellow beings.
3. Self-direction.
36:5.8. 3. The spirit of courage—the fidelity endowment—in personal beings, the basis of character acquirement and the intellectual root of moral stamina and spiritual bravery. When enlightened by facts and inspired by truth, this becomes the secret of the urge of evolutionary ascension by the channels of intelligent and conscientious self-direction.
4. Supremacy of spirit domination over mind and matter.
109:3.2 ...comparatively few will elect to ascend the moral heights beyond the hills of self-mastery and character acquirement to attain the higher levels of emerging spirituality.
